| Each year our RHS thespian troupe takes a trip to the Texas State Thespian Festival. The Texas Thespian Festival is an event that brings together high school theatre students from across the state for one long weekend of performances, theatre competitions, and workshops with some of the best theatre practitioners in the country. This event is open to all Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Thespian Club members at RHS who wish to participate. Here are highlights from this year's convention: We are proud to announce that many of our senior theatre students earned top awards and scholarships at the Texas State Thespian Festival last week in Corpus Christi. We were one of only two RISD schools to attend the convention and competition (Lake Highlands also attended, but did not compete) and we were the fourth highest awarded school in the state. Please congratulate the following students for excellence in their fields: Sean Murphy was rated 2nd in the State of TX in acting, received a superior rating in the Monologue Competition, and qualified for Nationals. Madeline Steiner was rated 9th in the State in musical theatre, received a superior rating in the Musical Theatre Competition, and qualified for Nationals. Alec Schiff received a superior rating in the Set Design Competition and qualified for Nationals. David Seitz was named one of the top ten Technicians in the State of Texas and received one of three scholarships in Technical theatre. Julianne Schwartz was awarded one of two Future Theatre Educator scholarships. Sean Murphy also directed a one-act play titled An Adult Evening with Shel Silverstein, starring Madeline Steiner and Jesus Trevino, which was chosen as a featured Marathon play at the competition. In addition to this, our RHS students received over 45 callbacks to various colleges from around the country and were among the most highly recruited theatre students in the state. (David Seitz was actually called back by all 26 of the technical theatre programs represented at the scholarship interviews. We were assured by the coordinators that this was the first time that had ever happened in Texas Thespian History.) We are very proud of these students and we would like to thank the RHS staff for the support of our programs and the administration for allowing them to compete.
